
TRANSCULTURAL NURSING ISSUES (TNI) SIG STRATEGIC PLAN 2001-2004
Mission Statement The mission of the Transcultural Nursing Issues Special Interest Group (SIG) is to foster excellence in oncology nursing by promoting, investigating, and disseminating information related to transcultural issues that impact patients, families and the health care team. Implementation of the following goals and activities will be used to accomplish the mission. The strategic goals are to:
- Increase resources that will ensure the continued growth and strength of the TNI SIG's leadership and members by:
- Increasing TNI SIG membership by development of a recruitment and retention plan for members interested in transcultural nursing issues
- Explore a mechanism to network with minority nurses within ONS (e.g. Reception to Celebrate Diversity).
- Develop strategies that increase the knowledge base of nurses working with patients from multicultural backgrounds by:
- Submit culturally-relevant topic suggestions to the ONS Institutes of Learning and Annual Congress
- Promoting research activities that will enhance the knowledge base of oncology nurses on issues that impact patients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Increase the quality and quantity of resources that focus on transcultural nursing issues
- Developing multicultural core competencies for various areas of patient care.
